In "Going Home", the viewer quickly joins the subject in her quiet journey as she moves across the canvas. The carriage of this beautiful young woman and the direction of her shoes she carries suggest she may have come to a cross road in her life. Even though we cannot see where she has been, her bare feet convey a peaceful confidence. As the light from above gently bathes the subject, the unknown companion is assured of a bright future ahead. The use of a dark background provides a "clean slate" and an opportunity for the imagination as a connection is made with the maiden on her walk home.
